Overseas investment projects

Mr. Byungkook Kim, our principal U.S. attorney, is an in-house attorney and legal risk management expert. He has over 16 years of experience in corporate legal affairs and legal/contract review and negotiation for various domestic and international projects (construction/engineering, private power generation, resource development, real estate development, M&A, etc.) at leading Korean companies, including Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) Middle East subsidiary, Daelim Industrial (DL E&C, DL Energy), and POSCO Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. He also has extensive experience responding to various domestic and international claims, handling civil/criminal litigation and international arbitration through collaboration with law firms, and handling commercial and tax litigation in the United States. He also manages various legal/contractual matters, including corporate law, labor law, and immigration law, for overseas corporations and branches in various countries, and has six years of experience working for overseas corporations. This combined experience provides comprehensive support for diverse international projects from A to Z, from business development to completion.

Southeast Asia business

While working at Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), I have experience supporting contract/legal review related to industrial complex development in Vietnam, Myanmar, and Russia; smart city development in Vietnam and the Philippines; capital relocation project in Indonesia; and carbon emission credit CDM/SDM project in Pakistan.

While working at Daelim Industrial Co., Ltd. (currently DL E&C, DL Energy), experience participating in bidding for the Prai CCPP IPP/EPC project in Malaysia (1,000-1,400MW, BOO), the Kalteng CFSPP IPP project in Indonesia, the Song Hau III 2x600MW CFPP (BOT) project in Vietnam, the Long Phu III 2x600MW CFPP IPP (BOT) project, and the Pulupandan onshore wind power development project in the Philippines.

 

While working at POSCO Engineering & Construction (merged into POSCO Engineering & Construction), he has experience in successfully completing the Wampu hydroelectric power plant IPP project in Indonesia, the Merak thermal power plant construction project, and various chemical plant construction projects in Thailand.

Middle East/Islamic Business

Experience participating in the King Abdullah Smart City development project in Kuwait while working at Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH)

While working at KOGAS Akkas & Iraq BV, a Middle Eastern subsidiary of Korea Gas Corporation, he served as general counsel for four Iraqi gas field development projects: the Akkas gas field (KOGAS alone), the Zubair oil field (joint venture with ENI and OXY), the Badra oil field (joint venture with Gazprom Neft, Petronas, and Turkish Petroleum), and the Mansuriya gas field (joint venture with Turkish Petroleum and Kuwait Energy).

While working at Daelim Industrial Co., Ltd. (currently DL E&C, DL Energy), I have experience participating in the bidding for the Rabigh2 HFO Fired PP IPP project in Saudi Arabia.

While working at POSCO Engineering & Construction (merged into POSCO Engineering & Construction), he participated in the M&A project of a Greek construction company in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and resolved a dispute in the EPC project for a chemical plant in Libya.

Oceania business

While working at Daelim Industrial Co., Ltd. (currently DL E&C, DL Energy), he successfully completed an M&A project for an Australian coal-fired power plant (851MW, acquisition of 35% stake with a financial investor: establishment of a company in the SPA, SHA, Tax Haven region – Cayman Island, Labuan).

 

While working at POSCO Engineering & Construction (merged into POSCO Engineering & Construction), he participated in the New Zealand hotel construction project and the Queensland, Australia, mixed-use apartment construction project.

While working at POSCO Engineering & Construction (merged into POSCO Engineering & Construction), he has experience in successfully completing IPP projects, including the solar power IPP project in Nevada, USA, and in successfully completing M&A projects for engineering companies in Central and South America.
